One killed, two injured in knife attack

Imphal, July 01 2015 :
In a bizarre incident, a mentally challenged man stabbed to death one person and injured two others at Takhel under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East on Wednesday.
He has been taken into police custody.
The deceased has been identified as Khundrakpam Sanathoi (28) and the injured are Yumkhaibam Premchandra (19) and Pheiroijam Jugeshwor (55),all from Takhel Mayai Leikai.
Sanathoi succumbed to his injuries after a brief treatment at JNIMS around 10:30 am.
The incident occurred around 10 am, according to police reports.
The other two victims are reported to be out of danger.
The accused, Arambam Naobi (25), a resident of Takhel Panthoibi Keithel, was extremely violent when he attacked the trio on the road in Takhel and fled.
He is stated to be a mentally ill.
The locals managed to get hold of him after a hot chase about half a kilometre.
A team of police from Lamlai Police Station arrived at the spot and picked him up, but not before the police fired several rounds of tear gas canisters to quell the angry locals who were demanding that they would punish the accused on the spot.
Meanwhile, Khulem Krishnamohan, who was critically injured in a gun attack by his nephew on Tuesday, succumbed on Wednesday, NNN reported.
Khulem Jiten of Naoremthong Khulem Leikai allegedly beat up his own father at their residence.
His uncles Khulem Krishnamohan and Khulem Priyobrata rushed in and attempted to pacify them.
An outraged Jiten then attacked them with gun shots.
They were injured and rushed to the hospital.
However, Krishnamohan succumbed to his injuries around 2:30 am.
This incident angered the locals who demolished the house of accused Jiten.
One Bolero jeep belonging to him was also set on fire.
One meira paibi leader said, "Such a barbaric act is condemnable and unpardonable.
As he can resort to such crimes in future and he is not fit enough as a human to reside in the locality, therefore he was banished" .
Locals also decided not to claim the dead body of Krishnamohan until the culprit Jiten is arrested and punished.
Later, Lamphel PS came and dispersed the crowd.
In another report, a dead body was found lying under the Lamlong bridge of Imphal East.
From his appearance, he is appeared to be a non-Manipuri.
A team of Porompat Police retrieved the body and took it to RIMS mortuary.
