Imphal, July 01 2015 :
Kangleipak Students Association (KSA) has launched its protest against the inclusion of objectionable matter on Shirui Lily in a textbook published by Nagaland Board of Secondary Education (NBSE) .
Majority of school students at Imphal led by KSA volunteers today sported black badges to demonstrate their protest against the distortion of facts by the Nagaland Board.
A text book on Nagaland (for Classes IX and X) published by NBSE mentioned that Shirui Lily (the State flower of Manipur) 'is found only in the Shiroi mountain in Nagaland.
KSA president M Lakshman while expressing strong objection to this claim has appealed to the Nagaland Board of Secondary Education (NBSE) to remove the sentence from the text books.

Tension have already been brewing between the two neighbouring States on issues of land encroachment.
Instead of rectifying the mistakes, the Nagaland Government has yet fueled the tensions by altering the facts on Shirui Lily, Lakshman stated.
On June 8, KSA submitted a memorandum to competent authorities urging them to take up necessary actions on the issue.
As no plausible steps have been taken up by the State Government, the KSA backed by students, launched its first form of agitation today sporting black badges to register their protest.
KSA volunteers distributed black badges to the students of TG Higher Secondary School, Model High School, Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School and CC Higher Secondary School.
The students' body will spread its protest to other Government and private run schools in the State.
The KSA has also demanded competent authorities to table the issue in the ongoing Assembly session.
