Ministerial team inspects site for shelter home

A ministerial team comprising tribal affairs and hills minister Letpao Haokip, who is also the cabinet sub-committee chairman, education minister Th Basanta Singh and IFC minister Awangbow Newmai visited Moreh to identify site for setting up shelter homes for the refugees from neighbouring Myanmar.
The refugees have sought shelter at Haolenphai village near border pillar number 76 in Moreh sub-division of Tengnoupal district, following tense situation in Myanmar.
The ministerial team had a meeting with the refugees at the residence of Haolenphai village chief during which one refugee named Thangsei Haokip, who claims himself as the MP of Myanmar, expressed gratitude to the government of Manipur for the steps taken up to shelter the refugees.
He also categorically stated that they will not be staying here forever, but will be leaving for their home once the situation in Myanmar normalises.
On their part, the ministerial team confided that construction of the shelter home will commence from Monday and that a biometric system will be installed for maintaining record of the refugees.
The inspection visit was also attended by officials of different departments including PHED, MSPDCL, PWD, health department and police.
