Time to knock UN's door: PREPAK-II

The continuous efforts of the United Nations, specially its subsidiary organ, the Decolonization Committee in its journey of wiping out colonialism in all its forms by giving due recognition and diplomatic support to all the National liberation movements of colonised peoples and countries deserves special mention, PREPAK Interim Council, Red Army Chairman continued.

More than 80 countries got liberated after the inception of the United Nations on October 24, 1945.The firm stand of the United Nations in terminating colonialism has been clearly reflected in the successive statements of the UN Chief, Mr Antonio Guterres in 2018 and 2019 in the opening session of the UN Decolonization Committee where he called the decolonization agenda "an area close to my heart and to which I reiterate my commitment", Aheiba Angom remarked.

In 1960, the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples was adopted and the following year the General Assembly established the Special Committee, known by the shorthand 'C-24' after its original 24 members, to monitor its implementation.

As "one of the most significant chapters of the Organization's history," Mr.Guterres credited decolonization with helping to transform UN membership, "propelling the Organization's growth from 51 original members to 193 today", reads the Chairman's statement.

Bringing an end to the colonial expansion should be the aspirations of the people living under colonial rule and the UN has been playing a significant role to this end.

Future of the colonized people should be decided by the people themselves.

Oppressed people and Nations of the world have been waiting eagerly to free themselves from the clutches of the colonial regime under the aegis of the United Nations.

It took almost 20 years for the Timor Leste to regain their independence from Indonesia and establish their own self-Government.

The decolonization process has been slowed down, however, Gueterres has stated that it is moving forward, the rebel leader noted.

The decolonization process has played a significant role in granting independence to colonised peoples and countries worldwide.

Rights of the people to National self-determination is enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, according to the statement.

It would be wrong to say that there is no International Law just because India fails to comply with the provisions of the international law, covenants and declarations of decolonization.

In 2020, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 75/123 declaring the period 2021-2030 as the Fourth International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism.

This resolution called upon the Member States to intensify their efforts to continue to implement the plan of action for the Second International Decade.

As of Kangleipak, the people have not given their mandate either through referendum or plebiscite to the merger of Kangleipak with India which clearly violated the Charter of the United Nations, international law and the Kangleipak Constitution Act.

The Kanglei people while moving forward with the armed liberation movement need to knock the door of the United Nations and press for their right to self determination, it said.

The role of the PREPAK's Red Army in the liberation movement since the last 46 years is commendable, it said.

"I feel proud of the many soldiers of the Red Army who have laid down their precious lives at various battlefields fighting the Indian military forces for restoration of the lost sovereignty of Kangleipak.

The Red Army should believe that as long as they fight the Indian military by challenging openly or through guerrilla warfare, we are not far from our goal to regain the lost sovereignty of Kangleipak.

This is the only means to restore our lost sovereignty", Aheiba Angom asserted.

He then offered revolutionary salute to all martyrs who laid down their lives in battles fought against the enemy for freedom, development and an egalitarian society, and in torture and oppression, fellow revolutionaries who are languishing in prisons and to all those who are leading an incapacitated and maimed life due to severe torture by the adversary forces.
