Imphal, March 26 2023:
Sagolband MLA RK Imo inaugurated 40 grid connected rooftop solar power plants installed at different locations of Sagolband assembly constituency on Sunday.
The main function held at Takhellambam Leikai Youth Club (TYC), Sega Road was organised jointly by BJP Sagolband Mandal and Sagolband Assembly Constituency Progressive Committee.
Speaking on the occasion, RK Imo informed that he invested Rs 1 crore from his local area development fund for installing the rooftop solar power plants as part of the Go Green Mission of the state government and it is a gift to the people of his constituency for electing him for the third time.
Stating that the solar plants are being installed in every polling station of the constituency, he pointed out that the same cannot be carried out in Paona Keithel area since there is no club building or community hall.
Besides, the area is well-lit by the state government as it lies in the heart of Imphal city, he said.
Recounting that the first solar plant was installed on trial basis at the local club of Ingudam Leirak in 2021, the MLA said success in the trial led to installation of such plants in the remaining localities.
These plants will last minimum of 20 to 25 years and they will be enough to illuminate local clubs, community halls and streets.
RK Imo, however, said that there will be no power supply in the absence of government's power supply since the solar power plants do not have batteries to store power.
Excess power will be sold to grid and the profit can be utilised for lighting purpose during rainy season when there is minimal or no sunshine, he explained.
As for the capacity of the power plants, they are decided on the power usage history of the respective local clubs.
Before the installation, each local club spent an average of Rs 2000 on power recharge, which is covered either by contribution from the households or from the club fund.
Now, clubs will collectively save around Rs 70,000 per month from the entire constituency, he said while calling it as a big gift from the government.
The MLA also said that Sagolband AC might be the first to install and inaugurate 40 rooftop solar power plants all at once.
It shows the position of the constituency in the government's Go Green Mission, he said.
While acknowledging representations submitted by some clubs, the MLA assured of constructing community halls in missed out areas.
He also informed the gathering that mega health camps wifi be organised in consultation with health department at eight different locations of the constituency soon.
TYC president Boibi Pebam presided over the function while social worker Takhellambam ongbi Sumitra and BJP Sagolband Mandal president H Ruhikanta attended as guests of honour.
