CM emphasises judicious use of water

Chief minister N Biren expressed his desire to organise mass awareness campaign on importance of judicious use of water and conservation of forest amid the problem of scarcity of drinking water faced by the people.
Addressing a gathering at the state level awareness campaign on 'Access to clean water and sanitation: Building healthier and more resilient society' organised by Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) at the Kangla Nongpok Torban, N Biren spoke on the relation between forest conservation and water scarcity problems.
He instructed the PHE department to organise such awareness campaigns at different areas near river sources, to prevail upon the people on the importance of Using water judiciously and conservation of forest areas.
Speaking on the occasion, PHE minister L Susindro Meitei informed that the awareness campaign was conceived to make people aware about the importance of water for life.
While conceding that the campaign would be fruitful only with the cooperation of the public, he said that similar awareness programmes would be organised in all districts and appealed CSOs and other frontal organisations to extend their support.
He said that certain arrangements are being made by the government to address water scarcity problem by setting up filling points at different locations.
Dredging activities of specific rivers are being carried out to provide water to all intake points, the minister said and appealed the public to use water judiciously and plant trees to conserve the environment.
Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte, secretary (PHED) Namoijam Kheda Varta, chief engineer and officials of PHED also attended the programme among others.
