Workshop / production on Manipuri Traditional Dance Costume (Folk) concludes

The 15-day workshop cum production on Manipuri Traditional Dance Costume (Folk) organised by Performing Artistes Centre Khurai came to a close today.
The valedictory ceremony was attended by Pukhrambam Bilash Singh, Director in-charge, JN Manipur Dance Academy; Thangjam Mani Singh, president, Performing Artistes Centre Khurai and Dr M Macha Chaoreikanba, Assistant Professor, Dance & Music Department, Manipur University as the chief guest, president and guest of honour.
During the valedictory ceremony, certificates were distributed to the participants and Costume Director Laishram Ibotombi presented a costume demonstration.
Speaking on the occasion, Pukhrambam Bilash stated that being an artiste necessitates one to have knowledge about costumes.
He also highlighted the rarity and importance of such a workshop.
The JNMDA Director in-charge further said that the patterns in Manipuri dance costumes have their own internal meaning.
While perfor- ming a dance, it is important to know what the costumes stand for.
The costume conveys meaning about the dance itself to the audience, he maintained.
