Moreh, March 26 2023:
Given the escalating crisis in Myanmar following a coup in 2021 and the subsequent entry of several foreign Nationals in Manipur, the State Government has decided to set up a temporary shelter home at Moreh to house the refugees.
The construction of the shelter home will begin tomorrow.
Today, a team of legislators including Letpao Haokip, Thounaojam Basanta Kumar and Awangbow Newmai visited Haolenphai Village near Indo-Myanmar border and interacted with the refugees taking shelter there.
Top brass of Manipur police and other Government officials also took part in the visit.

It might be mentioned that the Myanmar Army has been intensifying its attack on the resistance groups especially People Democratic Force (PDF) since the past few days by carrying out airstrikes and torching its camp close to Border Pillar 81 on the Myanmar side.
In the attack, some PDF cadres were killed while one of the injured were treated at Moreh Hospital.
Later, the visiting team inspected the site where the Government is planning to build the shelter home.
One of the refugees who is an MP, Thangsei Haokip, said that they will return to Myanmar once there is normalcy in their native country.
"We didn't come here to stay forever and we will return when there is normalcy.
We were forced to flee by the persecution," he added.
He thanked the Manipur Government for looking after them.
Letpao Haokip, on the other hand, said that only identified refugees will be lodged at the temporary shelter home by conforming to all protocols.
"We take up the temporary initiative on humani- tarian ground," Letpao said and added that all the identified refugees will be given an identity certificate.
The Minister said that construction of the temporary shelter home will begin tomorrow.
