BJP Manipur Pradesh president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi called on union minister for women and child development Smriti Zubin Irani on Wednesday and discussed the status of women and children in the state.
During the meeting, Sharda highlighted issues being faced in the state regarding women and children, and implementation of flagship schemes such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
She also proposed for inclusion of more women in decision making bodies.
The minister then assured of visiting the state and assessing the issues concerning women and children.
Mention may be made here that Sharda Devi had served as national vice-president of BJP Mahila Morcha when Smriti Irani was the president and they worked closely on several occasions.
Later, Sharda Devi also called on tribal affairs minister Arjun Munda and gave a report on the tribal welfare programmes being taken up in the hill districts of the state as well as the Go to Hills mission of CM Biren while drawing his attention to the need for taking up more development programmes in the state.
Sharda, who is in the national capital to meet party leaders to chalk up strategies for the forthcoming state assembly election, would be returning to Imphal without meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the latter has a busy schedule.
