Imphal, July 14 2021:
While demanding increase of grade pay and nursing allowance, Trained Nurses' Association of India (TNAI), Manipur State Branch has cautioned the state government that its members would launch symbolic protest by wearing black badge from July 21 to 28 and intensify the same by resorting to cease work strike from July 29 if the government ignores their demands.
In a memorandum submitted to the chief secretary on Wednesday, TNAI Manipur reminded that nurses in the state have been demanding the government for increasing their grade pay similar to nurses working under central government when the 7th central pay commission is implemented in the state.
It also demanded to increase nursing allowance from Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,000 per month.
Considering the huge disparity in the pay structure and allowance of nurses working under state and central governments, the demands of TNAI could not be considered as irrational, the memorandum stressed, while lamenting that the government is yet to issue relevant order for honouring their justifiable demands despite giving several assurances.
With the approval of state government, JNIMS management has increased the grade pay of their nurses from April 2020.It is unfortunate that the government is discriminating the nurses working in other institutes despite having the same work assignment and qualification like that of JNIMS nurses.
Nurses have now lost patience following repeated denial of their demands by the state government, the memorandum added.
