Imphal, July 14 2021:
Loumee Shinmee Apun Lup (LOUSAL) said that the quality of the seeds, equipment and other items provided by the Agriculture Department was questionable.
Mutum Churamani, president of LOUSAL said this in a video message released after inspecting the paddy fields at Wangoo Sandangkhong where a variety of rice called RCM-12 is planted today.
The paddy seeds were provided by the District Agriculture Office, Bishnupur, he added.
The farmers were informed that RCM-12 can be harvested after 110 days however even after 125 days, the rice is yet to bear any fruit.
Adding that agriculture is a labour intensive job, what initiative will be taken up to compensate the farmers has to be decided by the Agriculture Department.
Even though the seeds were provided by the district office, the bags which were used to pack the seeds had no certification by ICAR or CAU.
The LOUSAL team also found that some part of the paddy field also have been ploughed by farmers as they are not sure of the fields yielding any fruits anytime soon.
