Imphal, July 14 2021:
A total of 66 wooden logs being transported in 13 Shaktiman vehicles along the Kangpokpi IT road were seized at the MVCP established by 44 Assam Rifles of 22 Sector/IGAR (E) on Wednesday.
According to PIB (Defence) Imphal, the smugglers were waiting for the rain to subside to ply the trucks on short cut routes to Kangpokpi.
The apprehended individuals along with the seized wooden logs worth (approximately) Rs 1 crore have been handed over to Kangpokpi Forest office for necessary legal action.
It is single largest consignment of 13 vehicles carrying illegal wooden logs seized by Assam Rifles this season, the PIB said in a release, adding that use of such a large number of vehicles indicates that the illegal wooden log racket is active along the IT road in Tuilong area.
The Shaktiman vehicles in large numbers are being used to ferry the illegal wooden logs out of Tuilong area.
There are still more vehicles stuck en route due to mechanical failures carrying illegal wooden logs, the PIB informed.
