Imphal, July 14 2021:
Waqf Board, Manipur has clarified that there are no restrictions or bans on celebration of Eid-Al-Adha (Bakrid) by the State Government.
Md Abdul Nasir, chairperson of Waqf Board clarified this at a press conference held at his office in Haffiz Hatta and added that there was a directive from Animal Welfare Board of India to Chief Secretaries and DGPs of States to ensure that all the rules and regulations relating to killing of livestocks were strictly followed during the festival.
Following the directives form the Animal Welfare Board of India, the State Government had issued an order regarding the same and it was published in local media.
However, the report has been misquoted and shared widely on social media that Bakrid celebration has been banned by the Government.
This is really unfortunate, Md Abdul Nasir said.
He added that some people were intentionally spreading false information painting the State Government as 'anti-Muslim' for political reasons and this should be stopped.
The Government led by Chief Minister N Biren is a secular Government which has no place for religious based politics and views every community in the same way, he added.
Stating that celebrating Bakrid by following all the rules and regulations is permitted by the Government, he appealed everyone not to spread fake news.
He also appealed everyone to celebrate Bakrid at home by observing all the COVID-19 related SOPs.
