National People's Party (NPP), which is an ally of the BJP-led coalition government in the state, has appointed Laitonjam Jayananda of Khurai Konsam Leikai as the new youth president of NPP Manipur State Unit.
NPP national president Conrad K Sangma formally made the appointment of Jayananda on Tuesday.
Prior to the appointment, Conrad had met with Jayananda 3-4 days earlier in Guwahati, wherein the national president praised the latter's efforts over the last two years to contest in the polls including works taken up in his (Jayananda) constituency and relief work done during current Covid-19 pandemic.
The national president also assured of extending all possible help to ensure Jayananda's victory in the upcoming polls and advised the latter to work sincerely in the service of the people.
On the other hand, a spokesperson of the party had previously conveyed to The People's Chronicle that NPP is planning to field candidates in 20-25 ACs of the state, making it a serious contender in the upcoming polls.
The party has four MLAs in the BJP-led coalition government.
As such, steps have been taken up by the party to field potential candidates in the upcoming polls as well as for appointing intending candidate from Kshetrigao AC Sheikh Nurul Hassan as its state general secretary (administration).
As per sources, some ex-MLAs from other political parties are planning to join NPP, with 2-3 sitting MLAs also in the line to join the party and play a key role in strengthening and ensuring the success of the party.
Despite the prevailing pandemic, most political parties including NPP have been beefing up their strategies for the upcoming polls, which will soon become visible in the coming days.
