Imphal, July 14 2021:
Former minister and incumbent Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam has informed that Kakwa Asem Leikai has become the first among the 40 polling stations of Langthabal AC to complete cent percent COVID-19 vaccination and handed over cash reward to local COVID-19 task force.
MLA Shyam inspected a mass COVID-19 vaccination programme which was jointly organised by volunteers of Polling Station 20/9 and Asem Leikai Development Club at Kakwa Asem Leikai community hall, on Tuesday.
On the sidelines of inspection, he told media persons that some residents of Kakwa Asem Leikai Polling Station 20/9 who are above 18 years of age had received COVID-19 vaccine earlier and the remaining 530 residents were vaccinated fully on Tuesday thereby registering cent percent vaccination.
Thus, the polling station has become the first among 40 polling stations of Langthabal AC to complete cent percent vaccination and the local committee has been handed Rs 10,000 as encouragement and honour.
Taking serious note of attempts being made to politicize humanity service during the pandemic, Karam Shyam said that it would be wrong to play politics during the COVID-19 induced hardship though it could be done during election time.
To ease the suffering brought about by the pandemic at least to some extent, relief materials were distributed to 12,000 families of Langthabal AC recently in coordination with local development committees.
However, some people/families threw away the relief materials in the drain and uploaded video of the uncivilised act on social media.
Such acts were heart-breaking and they could have given the relief materials to others if they do not want to accept, he said, adding that the attitude of such people exposed their uncivilised nature and character.
About COVID-19 situation in Langthabal AC, the local MLA said that around 20/30 inmates are left out of 178 admitted to the Community Home Isolation Centre opened for the constituency at Standard Robarth School and others have gone home after recovering from the disease.
He said that inmates at the centre were provided four different dishes every day and the centre recorded cent percent recovery till date.
However, some people are trying to politicise the humanitarian service rendered during the pandemic.
It was very unfortunate that some inmates were called out from the centre on the mere ground that the centre was opened by the MLA while recovered patients were denied entry to their homes merely for staying at the centre, he said, adding that such cheap politics should not be played at all during the pandemic.
