CM Biren warns land encroachers

While maintaining that government provides proper compensation for any land acquired from the public, chief minister N Biren has warned people encroaching on government lands like reserved forest, water bodies including Loktak lake and Khas lands to vacate voluntarily before being arrested.
The chief minister gave this warning on the sidelines of flagging off ceremony of the Netra Kumbh Manipur Free Eye Check-up & Spectacles Distribution Camp in respect of Ukhrul district organised by Saksham Manipur Prant at the western gate of CM Bungalow here on Friday.
Addressing media persons at the launch ceremony, CM Biren appealed to encroachers occupying government lands like reserved forest, Khas land and Loktak lake to vacate knowingly and voluntarily and said that government will be not be responsible at the time of arrest or recovery of machineries.
He also said that government provides proper compensation for any land acquired from the public.
On the land demarcation issue at Sora, N Biren said that the incident was unfortunate but maintained that land for setting up the National Sports University Was acquired by the previous government and all compensations have already been paid.
Now, when steps are being taken up for boundary fencing, disturbances have been created, he said, adding that government does not want to use force to evict illegal encroachers.
The chief minister also lauded shopkeepers and residents of both Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar in Imphal city for understanding and accommodating the policy/programme of the government to decongest traffic in city areas.
He further said that the new parking arrangement was taken up for the convenience of shopkeepers as well as shoppers who come from all corners of the state.
The chief minister also said that it was very unfortunate that police personnel were involved and arrested in drug cases and clarified the man arrested with drugs in Churachandpur was a VDF member and not police and the VDF personnel has been terminated from service and he is currently in police custody.
Biren also termed as very unfortunate the arrest of one state policeman in Assam with drugs and disclosed that state home department will start verification of police personnel suspicious of taking part in drug business.
Further stating that under the 100 days programme, the government has included inauguration of Tombisana market complex, market at Lamphel to shift street vendors and a temporary market for street vendors has been constructed near the Ima Market, the chief minister also appealed to the street vendors against occupying the roadsides, which could create inconvenience to the public.
