Imphal, July 17 2021:
Imphal West District Youth Congress Committee carried out protest demonstration against hike in prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas at Khonghampat petrol pump on Saturday.
Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee general secretary P Bankimchandra and social worker from Lamsang AC Likmabam Amubi led the protest.
Interacting with media on the sidelines of the protest, Bankimchandra said that Congress party strongly condemns the anti-poor and pro-corporate policy of the BJP government.
He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working in favour of a handful of billionaire friends while ignoring the plight and suffering of the poor people, farmers and common man.
At the same time, the Biren government is following the same policy in the state, thus amplifying the sufferings of the people during this pandemic.
Not only fuel prices have increased but prices of all other daily essential commodities have also been raised thereby affecting the public, especially those with little or no income, he said while demanding the government to announce reasonable financial package for the public.
Distributing some rice and potato will not resolve the crisis that the people are facing during the pandemic.
Farmers across the state are also suffering and the government is not taking the matter seriously, he claimed and cautioned of launching more intense agitation if the government does not listen to the cries of the suffering public.
