Imphal, July 17 2021:
Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has sought response from the state government and its relevant authorities with regard to a sou-moto case registered by the Commission over the Koubru land dispute, by July 30 .
The sou-moto case was taken up by MHRC based on reports published by three local dailies, with its deputy secretary as complainant while the state government represented by the chief secretary, commissioner (revenue), commissioner (tribal welfare) and special secretary (home) as the respondents.
After examining the complaint in detail, the Commission instructed the respondents to give the response by July 30, while inviting private stakeholders concerned to submit their responses/ suggestions via affidavits to the commission within the given date.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Body Khurai said that community should look at land of Manipur in a selfish manner and maintained that remark of chief minister N Biren Singh 'all land in the state belongs to the state' is cent percent true.
According to a statement of the apex body of Khurai, the remark by leader of the state is justifiable and hence no community should look at the land of the state in selfish way.
It also appealed to all people both in the hills and the valley to look at land of the state equally and peacefully so that neighbours could not attempt to disintegrate the state.
According to the statement, Manipur has a total of 60 assembly constituencies and 19 of them have been reserved for Scheduled Tribes, one for Scheduled Caste and the remaining 40 for general and Kangpokpi AC too falls in this category.
Questions are being raised nowadays as to why Kangpokpi AC did represent general category, it said, adding that Article 371 (C) of the Indian Constitution was framed concerning Manipur and this temporary Article could be removed anytime by the Centre just as Article 370 was abrogated by the Centre from Kashmir.
