CSOs mourn demise of Ima Momon

Numerous civil society organisations (CSOs) of the state deeply mourned the sudden demise of All Manipur Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Lup president 'Ima' Momon Leima, who breathed her last at JNIMS Hospital on Saturday due to post-Covid complications.
In a release, Nupi Samaj general secretary P Sobita said that it along AMKIL, Tammi Chingmi, EECHAL, UMO, EEV-FAM, Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup, NIMPAL, ANUL, Thoubal Ima, AMSU, UPF, NIPCO, MAPI Council, UCM, HRA, CADA, UPACO, MACHA LEIMA, LEIMAKOL, Paona Bazar Women's Organisation and Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Semgat Sagatpa Lup condole the demise of Ima Momon and shared pain and grief of the bereaved family.
Informing that a condolence meeting attended by leaders of several organisations was held at Uripok Polem Leikai community hall on Saturday with strict adherence to Covid-19 SOP guidelines, Sobita said that floral tributes were paid to Ima Momon and a two-minute silence observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
Born on July 28, 1951 at Kongba Khu-nou, Ima Momon was the daughter of Sanasam Mohori and Nganbi Devi.
She married Soibam Samungou Meitei of Uripok Polem Leikai and became a mother of six children.
During her early years, she studied at Madan Mohan Girls' School, Kongba and later at Wangkhei Girls' High School.
After marriage she took active part in local Meira Paibi movement fighting against intoxicants.
She became a member of All Manipur Tammi Chingmi Apunba Lup in 1993 and held the post of publicity secretary from 1993-1998.She took the charge of finance secretary from 1999-2001 and as general secretary till 2004.Later on, she became the president of All Manipur Tammi Chingmi Apunba Lup, the post which she held till her last breath.
She actively participated in the intense movements against AFSPA in 2000 and also took major roles in the activities of Sharmila Kanba Apunba Lup (SHAKAL) from 2004 to 2015 as a part of the movement against the draconian act.
Moreover, she was at the forefront of various public movements including the controversial deaths of N Sanjeeta of Jiribam, Chanu Rose of Ukhrul, Ahanjaobi of Takyel, Pramo of Keirenphabi and Thangjam Manorama of Bamon Kampu.
