Food processing training programme concludes

A month-long residential training course on food processing organized by Rural Education and Action for Change, Manipur (REACH-M) under Border Area Development Programme of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Chandel concluded on Sunday at Resource Training Hall of REACH-M, Nungourok village.
Deputy Commissioner, Chandel, Robert Kshetrimayum Singh and M Tongpao Haokip, Secretary REACH-M attended as the chief guest and functional president respectively in the valedictory function.
Around 30 unemployed youths from different villages of the border area under Tengnoupal and Machi Sub-Division attended the skill development training programme.
Speaking during the function, Robert Kshetrimayum Singh said that skill development is a much-needed activity.
The people are still practicing the traditional form.
Due to lack of skills, most of the villagers live in poverty and continue to practice the traditional occupation and methods of production, he added.
Robert maintained that development of skills is one of the important ways to mitigate the problems of unemployment and poverty.
"If we upgrade our knowledge and skills, we can generate more income, sustain our livelihood and it will bring changes in our lifestyle," he said.
He further stated that Manipur is endowed with natural resources and there is prospect for development and if there is technical know-how for utilizing the resources, a lot of money can be earned easily.
The Government has launched many schemes for Skill development for the youths who have potentials.
In developing the skills of the youths, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) also have an important role to play in organizing such skill development training programmes for the youths, Robert said.
While appealing to the trainees to utilize the newly acquired knowledge and skills for sustaining their livelihood, the Deputy Commissioner further maintained that it would be futile, waste of money and time, if the trainees merely participate in the training without utilizing their knowledge and skills in proper ways.
The Deputy Commissioner also encouraged the youths to be honest, hard working and to take part in development activities of Chandel district and to make it one of the developed districts in the State.
During the valedictory function, the Deputy Commissioner distributed certificates to all the trainees and also inspected the processing food items like pickles made from fruits, bamboo shoot, chicken and several other fruit juices by the trainees during the programme.
