Kangpokpi, June 19 2026:
Hundreds of Kuki-Zo people on Friday took part in the Statewide "Rally for Justice" organised by Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) in Kangpokpi district headquarters, demanding urgent intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over alleged attacks on civilians, destruction of villages and deteriorating security conditions in Manipur.
The rally, organised by the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU), Sadar Hills, began from Nute Kailhang and proceeded along National Highway-2 before culminating at the Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner's Office.
The participants submitted a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner.
In the memorandum, KIM expressed "deep pain and grave concern" over the rapidly deteriorating relations between the Kuki-Zo and Naga communities, alleging that repeated attacks on Kuki villages and civilians have created a growing sense of insecurity, victimisation and abandonment among the Kuki-Zo people.
The memorandum placed a seven-point Charter of Demands before the Government of India, including a judicial inquiry into the Songkong village killing, abrogation of the ceasefire agreement with NSCN-IM and its alleged proxies, justice for the 14 Kuki-Zo civilians killed, an investigation into the destruction of 11 Kuki villages, immediate security deployment in vulnerable areas, submission of timebound investigation reports and an expedited political settlement for the Kuki-Zo people.
