Govt sets deadline for encroachers

The State Government has set a deadline of three days for all encroachers to dismantle their shops constructed over drains at Paona Bazar, Thangal and in between Ima Keithels.
Accompanied by a team of officials, MAHUD Minister Th Shyamkumar today made a field inspection of shops constructed over drains around Ima Keithels as well as the public toilets.
He instructed all shop-keepers/shop-owners concerned to dismantle the shops built after encroaching over public drains.
Later speaking to media persons, Shyamkumar warned that the shops built illegally over drains would be removed if their owners do not dismantle them within the stipulated time.
If any one has land ownership documents or if they are using the shops on lease, they should go to the DC concerned and the Imphal Municipal Corporation and obtain certificates.
The Government would study all such certificates.
He also appealed to all the shop-owners who do not pos sess pattas not to file petitions at Court against the; Government's move.
Clogged drainage systems and littering; on streets have been posing serious challenges to all efforts toward keeping Imphal city neat and clean, lamented the MAHUD Minister.
The enclosure made around a public toilet near Ima Keithel for fish-mongers would be sealed this evening without giving any prior notice.
The department would take a decision on the matter, he said.
To make Nambul river which flows through the heart of Imphal city a very clean river is one objective of the incumbent Government.
A project has been submitted to the Ministry of Environment toward this end, Shyamkumar told media persons.
He stated that insoluble plastics would be banned at Imphal after a gap of certain period.
