Imphal, February 15 2022:
Umanglai Sinpang Sintha Maheiroi Lup (USSIL) has come out against the rescheduling of poll dates by the ECI stating that the second phase poll day falls on an important Meitei which also happens to coincide with an important ritualistic religious and cultural event known as Saroi Khangba.
USSIL asserted that if people participate in the democratic festival of the electoral poll on March 5 and completely ignore this significant event, it might have negative repercussions on the cultural identity of Meteis.
USSIL also expressed with rue that candidates offer prayers to deities in order to fare well in the ensuing State Assembly election but are willing to disregard the same deities in this context.
The statement further added that elections are conducted for the benefit of the public and the same goes for Saroi Khangba.
As such, the organisation appealed for a rescheduling of the second phase poll date in order to ensure that both the election and Saroi Khangba can be observed without any impediments.
