Moirang, February 15 2022:
Former Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi has categorically stated that giving votes to the BJP would be a waste as the party is allegedly based on religious Nationalism.
Addressing an interaction programme at Kwakta Bazar Community Hall today, O Ibobi continued that the Congress party, however, advocates secularism and will never interfere in any religious related matters.
He further stated that BJP didn't take part in any freedom struggle in India.
Saying that Moirang AC is an indispensable part of India whose contribution to the country is plenty, Ibobi maintained that the former MLA of the Constituency had betrayed the Congress and his forefathers by joining the BJP.
The BJP didn't give its ticket to P Sharatchandra fearing that he might demand the Chief Ministerial post if elected, Ibobi claimed and added that BJP indulging in activities which is inimical to a particular religion such as the hijab row in Karnataka is unfortunate.
The saffron party is hesitating to hold ADC and Urban Local Body elections which were resumed by the Congress after a long gap, he claimed.
Continuing that BJP has no consideration for women reservation whatsoever and the same has been proven by the removal of the sole woman from the Council of Ministers.
He then urged all to support the Congress in the ensuing election.
MLA P Sharatchandra Singh said the developmental changes brought by Congress in Manipur such as the provision of regular power supply, construction of a flyover bridge, new Assembly and High Court complexes should not be forgotten.
It was during the Congress regime that AFSPA was removed from the municipal areas of Imphal and handed over Kangla to the people, he added.
The programme was organised by the Moirang Block Congress Committee.
