Dr Jodhachandra succumbs to Covid

Imphal, May 16 2021:
Eminent Manipuri writer Dr Jodhachandra Sanasam, who was also an ENT specialist, succumbed to Covid complications on Sunday morning at RIMS hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment after testing positive.
He was 77 .
Born at Singjamei Okram Leikai, Dr Jodhachandra nurtured his passion for writing since childhood days.
He wrote his first short story while he was studying in Class VIII.
He had published 23 books, out of which Thabal Gi Kundo Pareng (short story), Akanba Saphu Gi Erei (novel), Koimang Mangba Khonjelgi Ehool (poetry) Mathou Kanba DNA (novel), Khamba Thoibi Seireng of Anganghal (translation) and recently released Thaja Chanu (novel) are worth mentioning.
He received Sahitya Aka-demi Award, 2012 and State Kala Akademi Award, 2011 for his novel 'Mathou Kanba DNA' .
Dr Jodhachandra was also lyricist of AIR, Imphal and translator.
He took up the profession of medical teaching in his early years and worked as Head of Department for ENT at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Science.
During his life time, he received numerous awards including Sahitya Akademi Award (2012), Bijayshree Award (1991), Distinguished Leadership Award (1991), Man of Achievement Award (2003), Rising Personality of India Award (2009), Kabya Bhusan given by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Meghalaya (2009), Writers Excellence Award (2010), Arambam Samarendra Distinguished Award (2012) Sahitya Bushan given by Manipur Sahitya Par-ishad (2-18) among others.
He was closely associated with Apunba Manipur Matam Ishei Kanglup (AMMIK) and also a former president of Patriotic Writers' Forum, Manipur.
Meanwhile, Writers' Forum Manipur and Apunba Khorjei Lup (IMAKHOL) mourned the demise of Dr Jodhachandra Sanasam.
Progressive Writers' Association, Patriotic Writers' Forum, Kangleipak Loinasil-lon Apunba Marup (KLM), AMMIK, Indian Red Cross So-ciety-Manipur State Branch, Writers' Union, Yairipok Thambalnu Sahitya Marup cum Library, Union of Association of Manipuri Writers and Sahitya Thoupang Lup also condoled the demise of Dr Jodhachandra Sanasam and shared the grief and pain of the bereaved family.
