Imphal, January 11 2022:
BJP Manipur Pradesh chief spokesperson Ch Bijoy has urged other political parties including the opposition to jointly speak out against all poll-violence related incidents.
Speaking to newspersons at the Thambal Shanglen of BJP, Nityaipat Chuthek here on Tuesday, Bijoy pointed out the alleged silence amongst the opposition parties when BJP workers are subjected to attacks, compared to the hue and cry raised when the victims happened to be one ,of their own.
Violence should be kept far away from politics and any form of violence should be condemned, while ensuring a free and fair election in the state, Bijoy added.
"India is a civilised country.
Using violence to forcefully win the elections is beneath the dignity of a civilised state.
As such, efforts should be made to prevent any such violent incidents," he stressed.
Condemning the killing of 22-Wangoi Mandal Polling no.5 Booth president Abujam John and his younger brother Abujam Sashikanta on the night of January 9 and the bomb attack at the residence of ZP L Bobby at Khongampat Awang Leikai as acts of terrorism; Bijoy remarked that the incidents are a huge affront to politics and against the principle of democracy.
Most of the incidents seem to be specifically targeted at BJP, he remarked.
He then urged the police to apprehend the person(s) responsible at the earliest, while also urging the Election Commission to take up necessary preventive measures to prevent further occurrence of election-related crimes.
