Imphal, January 11 2022:
BJP's act of welcoming around 5 intending candidates despite having its own MLAs is basically trying to cause infighting, expressed Shiv Sena Manipur Unit president M Tombi.
Addressing a press meet at its Babupara office here on Tuesday, M Tombi questioned if BJP is deliberately trying to cause a fight by welcoming 5 intending candidates with lengyan (traditional stole) in the presence of its (BJP) own MLAs.
Such ill-intentioned tactics-should have no place in politics as it will hinder the effort of maintaining peace and development.
There is nothing wrong to finalise a candidate for a constituency where there is no MLA of BJP.
However, selecting a candidate for a constituency where there is already an MLA could cause unwanted problems, considering many candidates are contesting the polls without a shred of respect for the rules and regulations.
It is important to select a candidate, who is preferred by the people and has the capability to work for the betterment of the society, Tombi asserted.
Strongly condemning the Wangoi incident, the Shiv Sena president raised suspicion that the killings are related to the upcoming polls.
He then shared the grief of the bereaved families.
Remarking that similar incidents have happened in Heirok as well, Tombi urged all intending candidates to help prevent such incidents from occurring and prevent their respective workers from resorting to violence over any disagreement.
He also demanded that strict punishments be awarded to the person(s) responsible, or else there will be incidents of revenge attacks and poll-related crimes in all future elections.
Tombi then commented on the PIL filed in the Supreme Court against the implementation of ILPS in the state, and said that the petition was filed on the basis of the loopholes in the state.
The state government should carefully examine the matter and see if the tag of hill state, SC or ST could be implemented, he suggested.
Extending full support to the demand of Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee, Manipur (STDCM), he urged the people to carefully elect their representatives, taking it as covering the muzzle of the gun.
