Imphal, January 11 2022:
The JAC formed in connection with the killing of Abujam John and Abujam Rishikanta at Samurou has said that they will impose total shutdown on Mayai Lambi road from 6 am to 5 pm everyday starting tomorrow.
As per a statement of the JAC, rituals, education, emergency and medical services will be exempted from the purview of the shutdown.
The JAC sought support from clubs, organisations and meira paibis based in Manipur in their movement demanding justice for the two deceased.
If the Government fails to give a positive response by 10 am tomorrow, different modes of agitation will be launched, the JAC warned. On the other hand, chief spokesperson of BJP State Unit Ch Bijoy has claimed that the killing of Abujam John and Abujam Rishikanta at Samurou and the bomb attack targeting the UP Adhyakhsa of the party at Khonghampat were the works of 'terrorists' and condemned the acts in the strongest term.
President of Shiv Sena State unit M Tombi also condemned the incident at Samurou and urged all intending candidates to shun violent activities to ensure free and fair election.
Speaking to media persons at Nityaipat Chuthek today, Ch Bijoy stated that the killing of two persons at Samurou was the handiwork of those who lack confidence of winning the Assembly election.
Use of brute force to intimidate electors has no place in a democratic set up, Bijoy said and added that people have the right to choose the Government of their preference.
Saying that those who are eyeing to win the election by hook or crook will never do good for the people, he claimed that these candidates or political parties set foot into electoral politics just to expand their businesses.
It would be better to cancel the election if no measure is taken up to check poll related violence in Manipur, he said.
Urging all political parties to collectively stand against the use of violence, Ch Bijoy said that the voice of condemnation from the Opposition when certain elements target BJP is not loud enough.
Meanwhile, M Tombi urged the State Government to arrest the killers of the Samurou firing incident at the earliest.
