Imphal, January 25 2013:
While condemning the bomb blast which took place inside the complex of Ist Manipur Rifles here today morning, Home Minister Gaikhangam, who suspected police hand in the blast, has ordered the Police Department to submit a report of the investigation into the incident to him.
Talking to mediapersons, Gaikhangam stated that the bomb attacks carried out by certain UG groups with an aim to sabotage Republic Day celebration in the State cannot be considered a 'big threat' .
However, planting of bomb inside the 1st MR Complex and blasting it, which is under tight security vigil, was very unfortunate.
The attack could not have been carried out without the involvement of police personnel, and hence an investigation report over the incident has been called for at the earliest.
The Home Minister observed that acts of terrorism can be seen everywhere in the world.
The bomb blasts which occurred in different parts of the State today were just a 'show-off' act.
It was not a big threat to the smooth functioning of Republic Day celebration at all.
The Home Minister clarified that the bomb blasts were not, in any case, due to lapses in security arrangement.
This time, the security arrangement in the State in connection with the Republic day celebration, has been even tighter.
There will be no disturbance in the celebration, he assured.
Replying to a query, Gaikhangam stated that the State government is currently tie-up with the delegations of all political parties which went to Delhi to meet the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister in connection with Republic Day celebration as well.
The State Government would also be looking into the matter of Kuki demand for a separate State and the public blockade being called, thus causing unnecessary harassment to the general public.
He also pointed out that the Union Home Ministry has given the approval for starting political dialogue with Kuki UG groups which are signatories of SoO agreement.
As such, there is no need for any kind of agitation.
