JAC flays rape accused mom's comments

Taking serious note of rape accused Laikhuram Rojit's mother claiming that her son deserved proper medical treatment at a hospital, JAC against the Inhumane Gang Rape of an Umorok hawker today observed that the mother's comments to the media is sub-judice as the case is presently pending at a court.
Speaking to media persons at the Khoyathong Andolan Keithel office of Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Manipur this evening, JAC spokesperson Laishram Ganeshwori contended both the family members of the accused L Rojit of Porompat JN Hospital Road and jail authorities are trying to delay swift justice on the case.
Pointing out that Rojit is one of main accused in the gang rape of chilly hawker, Ganeshwori claimed that a JAC delegation is well aware that Rojit is not suffering from any serious ailment that merits his release from jail.
Maintaining that the JAC team had enquired about Rojit's medical conditions when he was briefly referred to JN Hospital and came to light that the rape accused was well and healthy, the spokesperson opined that Rojit's family members trying to bail him from jail is just a ploy to delay the case.
Further reminding that the court had already denied bail to the accused person at an earlier occasion and asserting that the JAC is totally against granting freedom to all those accused in the gang-rape case, she affirmed that the JAC will strongly oppose any move that intents to prolong the case.
Noting that accused Rojit was not produced by the relevant authorities before the court on three earlier occasions on the ground of illness, Ganeshwori expressed hope that the court will direct all concerned to ensure presence of Rohit and three other co-accused in the next hearing scheduled for January 30 .
With the regard to Rojit's mother claiming that her son is not feeling well and deserved to undergo treatment beyond the confines of the jail, she suggested that the mother accept her son's misconduct rather than mislead the public through false claims for the sake of women's safety.
Asserting that rapists should be punished in the most stringent manner so as to discourage similar inhumane acts in the future, the spokesperson also iterated that JAC will resort to intense agitation in case the accused persons are not made to feel remorse for their criminal act.
On the behalf of the rape victim's family, Panti Golmei also attended the media briefing.
