The 3rd National Voters' Day was observed today at GM Hall here under the aegis of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manipur under the theme 'Inclusion' .
The observance was graced by Additional Chief Secretary and former CEO PC Lawmkunga, CEO O Nabakishore and State Election Commissioner and Law Secretary Y Rameshchandra as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, PC Lawmkunga stated that the State's photo electoral roll is no longer error prone after deletion of thousands of duplicate voters.
The main features of the State level observance were reading out of the CEO's message, oath-taking by voters, felicitation of newly enrolled voters, quiz and essay competitions.
The main objective of observing National Voters' Day is promotion of registration of eligible voters in the electoral roll, said Additional Chief Secretary Lawmkunga.
He rejoiced that 44,000 youngsters were enrolled in the electoral roll anew during the recent electoral roll revision.
CEO Nabakishore said that the exercise to detect voters who enrolled their names in the electoral roll from different areas would go on so that all the duplicate voters can be removed from the list.
It has been already decided to review electoral of the Assembly constituencies of Chandel and Senapati district and delete names of voters who are present in the electoral rolls of more than one polling stations, Nabakishore said.
Y Rameshchandra advised all voters not to furnish wrong information when officials come for collecting date for the electoral roll.
He said that voter identity cards issued by the Election Commission are valid identification documents of all citizens.
Joint CEO N Praveen said that the National Voters' Day was also observed in the office of EROs at all district headquarters and 2652 different polling stations.
The National Voters Day was also observed at the Counting Hall of Thoubal DC Complex.
The programme was graced by DC/DEO Thoubal T Ranjit as the chief guest while ADM Thoubal L Nabakishwar Singh and Thoubal SDO Rajen Singh were the president and guest of honour respectively.
Distribution of prizes to winners of a quiz competition held in connection with the National Voters Day marked the observance programme.
