State joins rest of the globe in giving due importance to nurses

Recognising the valuable services of nurses in health care, Manipur joined the rest of the world in observing International Nurses' Day today.
This year's observance was held under the theme of "Nurses: A Force for Change � A vital resource for health" .
As part of the observance of International Nurses' Day, a one-day workshop on nursing was organized by Nursing Department of Shija Hospital and Research Institute, Langol at its auditorium here today.
The inaugural function of the workshop was attended by Joint Director (Nursing) of State Medical Directorate V Valte as Chief Guest and Managing Director of Shija Hospital Dr Kh Palin as President, while Principal of Asian Institute for Nursing Education, Assam attended as Guest of Honour.
Consultant Anaesthetist Dr T Kennedy and Staff Nurse of Shija Hospital Th Jina were the resource persons of the work.

Dr Kennedy spoke on the topic "Care of Patients on Ventilator Support", while Jina spoke on "Sterilization of Laparoscopic Instruments" .
On the other hand, Chamber of Commerce Medical Care and Research Centre, Imphal today celebrated the International Nurses Day 2014 along with conferring different awards to the nurses during a function held at the Meeting Hall of the Chamber Hospital Building, Thangal bazaar.
Ng Binodini Devi, retired Nursing Superintendant, RIMS, Imphal; Dr L Joykumar, retired Director, Family Welfare Service, Manipur and Mahendra Kumar Patni, president of Chamber of Commerce Medical Care and Research Centre, Imphal attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
At the event, Chamber Hospital honoured RK Bhiegyabati Devi, Sister-in-charge, O Shyambala Devi, Senior Nurse and N Ibetombi Devi, Duty in-charge by conferring different awards in recognition of their services and hard words.
A cultural programme, including Thabal Chongba was also organized for the hospital's staff nurses to mark the occasion.
International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12 to mark the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale.
The International Council of Nurses commemorates this important day each year with the production and distribution of the International Nurses' Day (IND) Kit.
The IND Kit 2014 contains educational and public information materials, for use by nurses everywhere.
The IND theme for 2014 is: Nurses: A Force for Change � A vital resource for health.
The content of this year's kit, including the poster image are posted here as downloadable documents for use by individual nurses, associations, health ministries and health institutions.
This material has already been disseminated to national nurses' associations worldwide.
Though mainly planned around May 12 each year, IND activities continue for much of the year by nurses and others.
We encourage nurses everywhere to make extended use of the Nurses: A Force for Change � A vital resource for health kit throughout the year, through individual action and group activities.
