Imphal, May 12 2014 :
A man from Manipur is all set to field himself as a Lok Sabha candidate either in Bihar, New Delhi or Gujarat when by-elections are held in these states after elected members who are contesting in more than one Lok Sabha constituencies vacated one of their seats.
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today, the man identified as Oinam Pradipkumar of Oinam Thingel, Imphal West district, who claimed himself to be a RJD National active member, pointed out that three MPs, two in Lok Sabha and one in Rajya Sabha, are not enough for Manipur in the Parliament.
So, Manipuris should fight Parliamentary elections from other States of the country to increase the number of Manipuri representatives in the Parliament.
This way, the problems and issues of Manipuri people could be highlighted more effectively in the Parliament as in the case of other States which have large number of representatives.
Pradipkumar, who is also said to be a former leader of a students' union leader, noted that those candidates who are contesting in more than one seat will definitely vacate one of their seats in the event of their winning both the seats, thereby creating a situation to have by-elections.
"In such a situation, I will field myself in one of those seats either in Bihar, New Delhi or Gujarat," Pradipkumar said, adding that in Bihar, he would like to be in the fray on RJD ticket, but he would contest on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket if he gets the chance in Delhi.
"In the case of Gujarat, I would prefer to contest as an Independent candidate," he added.
Pradipkumar went on to say that he if wins the by-election and become a member of the Lok Sabha, his first and foremost task would be to move for amendment in the Constitution so as to ensure increase in the number of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha seats in Manipur by one more each.
