The students of DMC Arts have urged the Government to look into various inadequacies of the college at the earliest.
Speaking at a press conference, DMC of Arts Students' Union General Secretary Ningthoujam Premchand said that students are facing lots of inconvenience as cycle shed of the college is inundated with water even at a slight rainfall.
When the matter was complained to the Principal, he told the students that their complaint would be forwarded to Directorate of Education (University and Higher Education) as the cycle shed fee of Rs 100 charged from the students at the time admission had been used in other college development works.
Premchand questioned why cycle shed fee was charged from students if its renovation is Government's responsibility.
Airing other grievances, Premchand said that rainwater seep into teachers' common room of Geography Department while college hall has been left unattended since its inauguration.
As the college hall is now in a dilapidated state, all the functions are conducted in classrooms, he said and added that there are many other classrooms and verandahs which need urgent repairing.
Regarding college library, Premchand said that the books are outdated and not matching with the semester syllabus.
He also mentioned about poor condition of boys' and girls' hostel buildings, absence of boys' common room and proper drainage system and dilapidated road conditions.
Saying that one L Gangte who was appointed as Lab Assistant of Geography Department is being deputed as a Cook in boys' hostel, Premchand urged the Government to bring him back to Geography Department.
He also threatened to launch different forms of agitation including boycotting semester exam if the grievances of the students are not addressed at the earliest.
