State observes World Bicycle Day

As in other parts of the world, World Bicycle Day was observed in different parts of the state on Thursday.
Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam along with some noted cyclists of the state and senior citizens took out a cycle rally in and around Langthabal assembly constituency to mark the event on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Karam Shyam informed that the 4th Word Bicycle Day, which is held this year under the theme 'The Uniqueness, Longevity and Versatility of the Bicycle, which has been use for two centuries' was observed in the state in low key manner due the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation.
But still, a 10-km bicycle ride was organised from Chajing, Chajing Mamang Leikai, Meitei Lamkhai, Haoreibi and Karam to spread awareness on benefits of riding bicycle which not only strengthen our health but is also environment friendly, non-polluting, ease congestion of transportation, apart from being pocket friendly, he added.
The bicycle ride which started from Chajing Mai- renkhong community hall was also participated by Cycle for Humanity representative Rohan Philem, G Ingobi, who has pedalled around South East Asia, senior citizens and youngsters.
Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association (MAAMBA) also observed World Bicycling Day by organising a virtual conference under the theme 'Cycling and Sustainable Development'.
The participants included YAS director Phulen Meitei, Association president Dr Ng Arunkumar, MAHUD director Th Harikumar, Manipuri film actress Soma Laishram and IMA president Dr S Jugindro.
As a part of the conference, Dinesh Phuritsabam delivered a talk on 'An Experiences', Soni Ng on 'Experience of a lady cyclist' and RK Satyajit on 'Grooming Cyclists' .
On the other hand, Khou- pum Battalion Assam Rifles of 21 Sector Assam Rifles organised World Bicycle Day under the theme 'Ecosystem Restoration' at Khoupum Valley, Noney district on Thursday.
During the programme, people of Khoupum area participated in the bicycle rally from Ragailong village to Khoupum Bazar.
As a part of the observance, an awareness programme was also held for the youth of Khoupum Valley on the importance of bicycling and health and environment benefits from bicycling.
