A team of Porompat police arrested one Oliver Moirangthem (27) of Khurai Lamlong Bazar, an associate of Kangujam Karnajit on Wednesday for allegedly committing fraud, cheating and other related crime in the name of the International Youth Committee.
He was taken to 5 days of police custody till June 7.Oliver Moirangthem (27), s/o Jilangamba of Khurai Lamlong Bazar was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East virtually along with the prayer for 5 days police custody and to allow to send the seized laptop and mobile phone to extract evidence at NIELIT Kohima.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that the complainant of the case, Prajesh Khanal Deuma, had on February 26 sent a letter to Excellency Ambassador, Embassy of India regarding the fraud and breach of trust by an Indian NGO.
The letter was then forwarded to the Ministry of External Affair (Northern Division) before forwarding the same to DGP Manipur and Porompat police station.
The letter mentioned that the complainant is a young Nepalese student working on child rights and environmental issues and has been recognized as "Golcal's 20 under 20" in 2017 and currently engaged as a member of the International Youth and UN Environment Programme.
The accused admitted the charges levelled against him.
The Court on perusal of case record and after hearing the submission of IO remanded him to police custody till June 7 .
