Brushing aside the rumour of shortage of common salt that led to panic buying in the State, CAF & PD Minister M Okendro has categorically stated that there is enough stock of common salt in the State and the public should never believe in such rumours.
Talking to media persons at his office chamber at Secretariat North Block here today, Minister Okendro said the rumour has caused panic among the public regarding shortage of common salt and its subsequent price rise in the market.
Similar rumour had been spread already in Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal and Gujarat.
He further said that the State Government has met the representatives of Manipur Chamber of Commerce and also instructed the police to conduct drives in all districts to prevent hoarding and price rise of common salt.
Those traders found selling the common salt more than the maximum retail price (MRP) would be taken action under the Essential Commodities Act.
Okendro also appealed to the public to inform the police or CAF & PD officials on helpline number 18003453821 or 0385-2451039 (CAF &PD Minister's office) if they find any trader or person hoarding common salt and selling at above MRP.
