Mao market to open at Pishumthong Ningom Leirak today

Imphal, August 22 2019: Mao market will be open at Yaipha Lamjing Lup Club, Pishumthong Ningom Leirak tomorrow.

Speaking to media persons today, Mao Imphal Market Coordination Committee media in charge Waikhom Ravi said that the committee has been demanding the Government to establish a proper market for the people of Mao since 2015.He then expressed disappointment that the Govt seems to be only focused on developing the roads and connectivity in a bid to increase the bond between the hills and the valley.

Expressing desire for the CM and the Govt in general to do something concerning the Mao market, he asked how is it feasible to keep transferring the Mao market from one location to another.

The Govt should take a concrete Cabinet decision if it is serious about the construction of a Mao market, he added, urging the Government to hand over the issue to the committee if it claims that there are no funds.

He then informed that Mao market will open at Yaipha Lamjing Lup Club, Pishumthong Ningom Leirak tomorrow from 4 am in the morning to 4 in the evening and appealed to the people to come and visit the market.

The market will open only on Tuesday and Friday, he explained.

In the Mao market, squash sells for Rs 30 per kg, brinjals at Rs 50/kg, cabbage at Rs 30/kg, chillies and onions at Rs 60/kg each, said Mao Union Imphal joint secretary A Loli Mao, before appealing the Govt to hear the grievances of the vendors and people of Mao and establish the market at a proper and permanent location.
