Police foiled attempts by womenfolk and Meira Paibis to stage a relay hunger strike and other protests at Thangmeiband today.
A large number of women folk and Meira Paibis from different areas of Thangmeiband began gathering at the waiting shed opposite THAU ground to organise relay hunger strike demanding justice for N Babysana at around 11 am today but police foiled the attempt and prevented the people from gathering at the area.
Later at around 1 pm, womenfolk came out on the streets and tried to bring out tyres on the road and burn them but heir plan was foiled again by the large number of police personnel deployed at the area.
On the other hand, irate locals and womenfolk of Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai burned the effigies of Standard Robarth Hr Secondary School Principal Pheiroijam Landhoni and her daughter, Ph Romita (who is the coordinator of the school) at around 4 pm today.
Speaking to media persons, SSUK secretary general Bushan Longjam said that the arrogant attitude of the Government issue is highly condemnable.
It is also disappointing that the police and the authorities are preventing the womenfolk and the people from even taking out democratic forms of protest demanding justice for Ningthoujam Babysana.
He then assured full support to the protest of the people and the JAC in this regard.
On the other hand, another women protester also strongly condemned the State Government for turning a blind eye to the protests of the people.
