Tamenglong, January 14 2014 :
The Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Tousem HQs and the Primary Health Sub- Centre (PHSC) in Tousem area are lying defunct today due to the apathetic attitude of the State Government which has not even deemed it fit to post the required doctors and nurses to these health centres.
While talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, TR.
Ringthengning, Convener of Village Authority Chairmen Council, Tousem Sub- Division, informed that when one NGO called 'Karuna Trust' was running the PHC Tousem, at least one doctor or a nurse is always at the station.
However, after the State Government took over the health centre in October last year, there has been none to take care of the patients and the PHC is now defunct.
To the query, TR.
Ringthengning said that in the absence of doctors in the health centre, when someone falls sick, he or she is being treated by local medicine men, who practiced 'Cobira' or rubbing with medicinal leaves.
He went on to say that when Karuna Trust used to run the Tousem PHC, it looked after PHC properly and served people well.
At least one doctor or a nurse is always at the station and it really helped the people when they fall sick.
The Village Authority Chairmen Council also appealed to the concerned authority to handover the administration of Tousem PHC and other PHSCs in Tousem Sub- Division to Karuna Trust once again in the interest of the sick people of the area.
Meanwhile, while appreciating the district administration for taking up speedy action towards resolving the long pending issue over Tamenglong- Jiribam boundary dispute, the Village Authority Chairmen Council has appealed to the special inquiry team to submit its inquiry report to the government without any further delay.
Furthermore, the Council made it clear that no political hands should be allowed to be involved in taking a final decision on the boundary issue.
