Baby Himalayan black bear, barking deer rescued

Imphal, March 12 2019:
A 40 day old Himalayan Black Bear has been handed over to Manipur Zoological Garden by the People For Animals yesterday.
The baby Himalayan black bear was rescued by an army Major Priyobarta of Uripok from the hands of hunters at Sajik Tampak, Chandel district, said a statement of L Biswajeet Meitei of PFA.
Priyobarta had been taking care of the baby bear for about 15 days after the rescue.
The bear was handed over to the PFA which then handed over it to the authorities of the Manipur Zoological Garden after medical checkup.
Meanwhile, a barking deer has also been rescued and handed over to Thoubal Range Forest Office for safe release, said PFA.
The deer was rescued by Abdul Gani and Abdul Nasir of Lilong.
They handed over the deer to president of Ushoipokpi Welfare Organization, Md Nasir Khan who contacted the PFA, said the statement.
