Martyr Khotinthang Sitlhou remembered

Imphal, January 09 2013:
The memorial observance of martyr Khotinthang Sitlhou alias Kilkhong, who fought fearlessly against the British to save Manipur in the Anglo-Thadou War of 1917-1919, was held at Taloulong (Damdei) village, Motbung in Senapati district today.
The function was attended by Education Minister M Okendro and former Minister Chungkhokai Doungel as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, Parliamentary Secretary M Prithviraj; MLAs E Chand, Kh Debendra, K Sarat and Kunjo were also present as Guests of Honour.
Hanghkolal Hangshing, Chairman of Sadar Hills-ADC was the Chief host of the memorial observance.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Okendro said that Khotinthang Sitlhou was a brave and selfless person who took a big role in the Anglo-Thadou War of 1917-1919 .

He was a man who believed that dying for his motherland is much better than living under the dominion of others.
His sacrificial spirit, courage and love for his motherland need to be emulated by the people of this generation.
"If we are to remember Khotinthang Sitlhou, observing memorial or taking part in it is not the what is important, what is required is following the footsteps of Khotinthang Sitlhou", the Minister added.
The Minister also unveiled the iconic motif of Khotinthang Sitlhou to mark the occasion.
