Mao cultural festival ends

Imphal, January 09 2013:
The Mao Community Cultural Festival that kick started on January 6 has concluded at Tadubi Ground yesterday.
TD Deputy Director N Kaikho Kapa and Mao Council President H Chakho were the chief guest and president of the closing function respectively.
Senior citizens of Mao community were also members of the dias.
Organised with the primary objective to promote Mao culture, various cultural items including models of age-old traditional Mao huts were showcased during the three-day festival.
Indigenous games, presentation of traditional instrument and fashion parade were the other highlights of the festival.

Speaking at the occasion, N Kaikho Kapa stressed on the need to preserve and protect the identity of Mao community.
"With the change of time, our colourful culture is getting extinct day by day.
Let us revive the culture adopted by the forefathers", he observed.
Articulating his observation to the youths, Kaikho said, "Be the master of your own identity and try to learn the culture of other community.
There is need to understand our language and our culture" .
Mao Council Publicity Secretary Lokho Ozho said that the festival would be organised every year.
Prizes for various traditional competitions held during the festival were also distributed in the closing function.
