Imphal, January 09 2013:
A pharmacy was torched by some unidentified miscreants at Kongba Keithel, Imphal East last night.
The pharmacy named Thambal Pharmacy was torched after pouring kerosene on the wooden door at about 9.30 pm.
A plastic bottle containing some kerosene was also found near the door.
As some passers-by noted the fire, the miscreants fled away immediately.
Soon, the fire which has just started burning was doused off before it could cause any major damage.
The area around the pharmacy is thickly populated and most of the houses are built of wood.
As such, the arson attempt would have caused extensive damages had it not been noticed in time.
The pharmacy is owned by one Puyam Damudor (55) of Uchekon Takhok Mapal.
Taking strong exception to the arson attempt, local people and shopkeepers of Kongba Keithel today staged a protest demonstration at Kongba Keithel.
