Imphal, January 09 2013:
Women are being surrounded by various problems and they are brooding in the present chaotic society of Manipur, Kolkata based fine art artist from Manipur Chitaranjan Moirangthem has observed.
In a tete-a-tete with Hueiyen Lanpao at Manipur Press Club here where some of his works are putting up for exhibition, Chitaranjan, who believes in the power of art as a tool for spreading peace and harmony, explained that his installation work titled Trauma is an artistic representation of Manipuri women.
The 25-year old artist, who graduated from Kolkata's College of Visual Arts, said that he has been able to conceive the idea of making 'Trauma' after 5 years of research on woman related issues.
Chitaranjan observed that earlier there were not much crime against women but the number of rape, molestation, murder after rape and other forms of domestic violence against women has increased many folds in recent years and all these crimes and violence have kept women in a traumatic condition.
"Everybody knows that women are suffering from the pain of exploitations but none of us are able to find a solution to redress the traumatic condition of women.
This is what 'trauma' is trying to convey to all", he said.
He went on to say that men and women are the inseparable parts of any human society and to improve the relationship between them we should change our mindset towards each other.
Moreover, a good society needs ideal mothers whereas a good mother needs good environment.
If man looks at woman with positive attitude and women in return look back in the same attitude there would be no gender based or woman related crimes in the society.
Art conveys peace, harmony and peaceful co-existence and the work is one such effort to impart positive message to all the people of Manipur, he added.
