Trucks torched, damaged during blockade and counter blockade

Several vehicles were destroyed by supporters during the indefinite economic blockade called by the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) since June 22 midnight.
On Wednesday too, protestors burnt down a truck transporting iron rods at Saparmeina area along National Highway-2 .
The truck was coming towards Imphal from Dimapur.
At around 1.45 pm, supporters stopped the vehicle at Saparmeina and set it on fire.
On hearing about the incident, a team of Saparmeina police rushed to the spot to salvage the vehicle.
However, the team failed to do so.
On the other hand, the counter-economic blockade imposed by the Meetei Youth Front South East Asia in protest against the ATSUM blockade has started.
On the first day, bandh supporters destroyed two vehicles that ferried essential commodities from Imphal to Jiribam.

At around 10 am, supporters stopped the Tata Somo vehicle and the Winger van and took down the items being transported in the vehicles.
Then, they made the vehicles to return to Imphal after damaging them partially.
Also, supporters of the counter blockade stopped several loaded vehicles in Khurkul and Pheidinga areas of Imphal West district and they were forced to return to Imphal after disgorging the items.
Later, State police recovered the items.
Counter blockade supporters disgorge goods at Pallel
The counter economic blockade called by Meetei Youth Front South East Asia and International Meetei forum against the indefinite economic blockade called by ATSUM along National Highways for their demands had hit hard the people of Chandel as volunteers stopped vehicles at Pallel.
It is also reported that all the goods were disgorged.
Mention may also be made that the counter economic blockade supporters are piling up the goods until ATSUM lifts its indefinite blockade.
Volunteers of Social Development organisation Pallel and Youth Volunteers organisation Pallel supporting the counter economic blockade check every vehicle approaching Pallel towards Chandel.
The checking took place at Pallel Chandel Lamkhai under Kakching police station.
The passengers were allowed to keep their goods at the place of their choice.
They were asked to take their goods when ATSUM lifted its economic blockade.
The general secretary of SDO Pallel informed the reporter of Hueiyen Lanpao that they will not allow any item to be carried towards Chandel through the road.
He also informed that the indefinite economic blockade called by ATSUM is hitting the common people hard.
Even if their demands are very reasonable they should protest in a way that the general population specially the poor civilians do not suffer.
If ATSUM chooses a way of protest where general public is not affected they will support their cause, said the volunteers of SDO Pallel.
