Imphal, June 24 2015 :
Women police stations of Imphal East and Imphal West have taken up over 100 different cases ever since these were established in April last year.
The women police stations were set up by the State Home Department to check the increasing crime rate against women and children.
After setting up women police stations in all the districts, a large number of cases, which otherwise could have been concealed due to social stigma, came up for justice, said a source.
These women officers and personnel are working no less than their male counterparts, added the source.
They normally rush to the crime scene whether it happens late in the night or wee hours.
Imphal West women police station alone has taken up 80 different cases so far, the source said.
These include three cases related to suspected rape and murder, 12 cases under Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012, 17 cases of kidnapping and 42 other cases related to crime against women and children while two FIRs have been withdrawn, it added.
Saying that Imphal West women police station has submitted charge-sheets of around 20 different cases till today, the source said that some more charge-sheets are also ready.
In Imphal West women police station, cases are taken up by five lady officers - four SIs and one ASI.
On the other hand, 48 different cases related to crime against women and children including two POCSO and one murder case have been reported so far in Imphal East women police station.
Although four FIRs have been withdrawn so far, the police station has submitted six charge-sheets to the Court.
