Sero-diagnostic kit for TB banned in state

Imphal, June 21 2012:
With Sero-diagnostic test kit for diagnosing TB giving wrong results of late, the use of the same has been banned in the state.
According to highly reliable source in State Family Welfare Department, due to wrong results given by Serodiagnostic test kit, people who are not suffering from TB have been shown positive.
As a result, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has directed the state Family Welfare Department to ban use of said testing kit with immediate effect.
The source further revealed that ban has been imposed under section 26 (A) of Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and a notification in this regard was issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Subsequent to the notification, production, sale and use of Sero-diagnostic testing kit has been completely banned all over the country, the source added.
Around 2 million people in India are affected by TB.
Every year 1.5 million people, who are tested through Sero-diagnostic kit are reported to be positive.
