DG, BSF visits Meghalaya

Director General, BSF, Utthan Kumar Bansal on Thursday reached Shillong on his three day visit to Meghalaya.
The DG BSF called on the state Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma and Chief Secretary, WMS Pariate.
DG BSF discussed various issues about Border Management with the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister appreciated the current Border Management being done by the BSF and the operational changes brought by the BSF in the recent past on the border which has improved the border security at large.
The DG also briefed Dr Sangma about Employment-Linked Vocational Programme presently in progress at Tura and Shillong under the aegis of BSF Wives Welfare Association (BWWA).
Infact the chief minister also desired to conduct more such programmes in the bordering area to improve the economic conditions of the border population.
Sangma assured that the state government will be partner in such nobel initiative and will also fund such programmes.
He also mentioned that fund under Border Area Development can be utilized for creating physical infrastructure for conducting such Employment-Linked Vocational training programmes.
The DG BSF also called on the Director General of Meghalaya Police, N Ramachandran.
Ramachandran also mentioned that the BSF and the Meghalaya Police has been working as one team and decided to work in synergy especially in Garo Hills to tackle the GNLA threat.
It may be mentioned that one BSF BN is deployed for Counter Insurgency Operationsin the Garo Hills.
DG held a conference of DIsG and Commandants in the conference hall of the FTR HQ BSF Shillong where Shri Sudesh Kumar, IPS, IG BSF Meghalaya Ftr presented an overview of Border Management in the Meghalaya.
The DG was satisfied with the operational performance of the Meghalaya FTR .Subsequently, the DG BSF addressed all the officers and briefed them to perform their operational duties with full dedication and sincerity.
He also desired to work in unison with the Meghalaya Police.
