LPG supply likely to improve

Imphal, June 21 2012:
The shortage of LPG supply to the Sekmai boittling plant following the closure of the Numaligarh Refinery Limited for the past two months, is likely to blow over soon weeks as the refinery has completed its maintenance service.
Subsequent upon shut down of NRL factory, distribution of LPG to retail outlets/agencies has been considerably reduced.
In the absence of adequate supply system, home delivery system of LPG remains a nonstarter in the State.
As Sekmai Bottling Plant has been issuing only 10 truck loads of re-filled LPG cylinders as against the earlier practice of issuing 17 to 18 truck loads of re-filled LPG cylinders, LPG distribution has run into backlog of around 40 days.
Last year, there was backlog of about 50 days on account of the protracted highway blockades imposed by Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee and the UNC.
Sekmai Bottling Plant was slowly making up this backlog since the blockades were lifted.
But the situation was revered to the earlier position after the NRL was shut down for the past two months.
Every factory carry out maintenance service like checking tanks, pipelines etc.
This process takes at least two months.
Now, Numaligarh Refinery Limited has completed its maintenance service.
Soon the factory would re-open and it is expected that LPG supply to Sekmai Bottling Plant would improve in the coming weeks.
